Wed. 8:40 pm: Absentee ballot requests ahead of 2012 pace in Ohio
WARREN – Nearly 806,000 Ohioans have asked for absentee ballots ahead of the Nov. 8 presidential election, according to information provided by Secretary of State Jon Husted.
In Trumbull County, Board of Elections staff director Stephanie Penrose said applications for absentee ballots have been coming into the Youngstown Road SE office steadily this month, with the total reaching approximately 15,000.
Penrose said extra part-time office workers have been busy processing the requests, with about half ready for mailing. However, absentee ballots cannot be sent to local voters until early voting in Ohio begins Oct. 12.
“The request for absentee ballots will be going on up until the Saturday before election day (Nov. 5),” Penrose said.
