Wed, 3:15 p.m.: ODNR gives OK for Vienna injection well

VIENNA – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has given the OK for KTCA Holdings to start injecting oilfield waste at its facility just south of the Youngstown Warren Regional Airport.

A preliminary order signed Sept. 7 by Richard Simmers, chief of ODNR’s Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management, authorizes Oklahoma-based KTCA to begin accepting wastewater from drilling activities at the well formerly owned by KDA of Warren.

The order becomes final after 30 days.

KDA never activated the well, but sold it to KTCA after the natural resources department shut down the company’s operations following a 2015 chemical spill at one of the company’s facilities in Vienna.

According to Simmers’ order, KTCAs well “is not in violation of the law, does not jeopardize public health or safety, and is in accordance with good conservation practices.”
