Weds. 9:30 pm: Potential license suspension may jeopardize judge candidacy

WARREN -The Republican challenger in the 11th District Court of Appeals race may face a law license suspension that could jeopardize his candidacy.

The Board of Professional Conduct of the Ohio Supreme Court recently recommended a one-year suspension for attorney Ron M. Tamburrino of Rock Creek. But before the Supreme Court can act on the recommendation, it has to give the Ashtabula County attorney 20 days to decide whether he wants to object to the recommendation.

In its recommendation, the board also called for six months of Tamburrino’s suspension be stayed if he commits no further misconduct and attends a six-hour continuing education course about judicial campaigns.

Court records show that Tamburrino hasn’t been officially notified of the board’s recommendation. A spokesman for the Supreme Court says that after the court issues a disciplinary order, Tamburrino would be given 10 more days to file a motion for reconsideration.

Attempts to reach Tamburrino were unsuccessful.

If the suspension is allowed to stand, Tamburrino would not be qualified to run as an appeals court candidate and forced to give up his challenge to incumbent Democrat Thomas R. Wright of Howland in the November election.
