Wed. 8:20 pm: Evans sentenced to 35 months in tax case

WARREN – The man who unsuccessfully defended himself on charges he failed to pay sales tax at his northwest Warren business refused to stand before Trumbull County W. Wyatt McKay Wednesday morning as the judge sentenced him to 35 months in prison.

Kevin L. Evans , 38, dressed in orange coveralls, was seated in the jury box while McKay pronounced the consecutive sentences on charges of theft and failure to pay state sales tax. A jury of six men and six women found Evans guilty of the charges in February.

Evans is owner of K&C Quality Custom Car Care at 3080 Mahoning Ave. NW and would not stand before the judge as his case was called Wednesday under the business’ name.

“That is a corporation and I am flesh and blood,” Evans said before he briefly struggled with three sheriff deputies who were called off by McKay so he could pronounce sentence with Evans still seated.
