Tues. 10 pm: Commissioners reinstate online job postings

WARREN – In response to an editorial by the Tribune Chronicle, two Trumbull County commissioners on Tuesday authorized county Human Resource director James Keating to reinstate county job postings online at the HR website.

Commissioners Daniel Polivka and Mauro Cantalamessa have agreed to bring back the practice of posting jobs online, which has been discontinued for a time. Keating previously said a commissioner wanted the online job postings stopped a few years ago because too many applications were being submitted.

Cantalamessa said Keating met with commissioners individually and determined there was a consensus to change the job posting policy. Polivka said he agreed with the move to “improve transparency” in the hiring practices.

Fuda did not return a message seeking comment about the new policy.

In Sunday’s editorial, the Tribune Chronicle took commissioners to task on their practices and in addition to the website request, also asked the board to remove reference boxes from county applications or order HR interviewers and department heads to ignore references listing commissioners. The editorial also asked the commissioners to implement a policy banning the hiring of relatives of workers or elected officials.
