Thurs. 8:50 p.m.: Former boxing champ indicted

YOUNGSTOWN – Former middleweight boxing champion Kelly R. Pavlik was indicted Thursday by a Mahoning County grand jury on two felony assault charges in connection to a pellet gun shooting last summer outside of his Canfield Township home.

Pavlik’s case was presented directly this week to the grand jury, which returned two counts of felonious assault. If convicted, the former champion could face a maximum of 16 years in prison.

Last August, a Boardman man accused the 34-year-old Pavlik of shooting him with a 22-caliber pellet gun, police said.
