Mon. 12:50 p.m.: Judge to rule in Hill case within 10 days

WARREN – A visiting judge hearing oral arguments this morning on Danny Lee Hill’s plea for a new trial is expected to rule within 10 days.

Closing arguments are being delivered now in the hearing being held in Trumbull Common Pleas Court. Hill is seeking permission to ask for a new trial in the 1985 brutal attack and murder of 12-year-old Raymond Fife of Warren.

The boy was attacked as he rode his bicycle to a Boy Scout meeting.

Visiting Judge Patricia Cosgrove from Summit County said, barring further legal addendums, she expects to rule on the case within the next 10 days.

Hill, 48, was present for the hearing only through video-conferencing from the state prison where he is being held following his 1986 conviction and death sentence.

Also convicted for the crime was Timothy Combs. Because Combs was a juvenile at the time, he was not sentenced to the death penalty. Rather, he is serving a life prison sentence.
