Thur. 10:44 a.m.: Police: Remains those of Warren teen

ASHTABULA – The human remains found behind an Ashtabula County home on Aug. 20 are those of Warren teen Alesha Bell, 18, the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office confirmed today.

A DNA sample was collected from Bell’s mother, and other missing people from the region, after the bones were found in a fire pit and wooded area at a home in Roaming Shores by police during a drug raid. Her death has been ruled a homicide by Ashtabula County Coroner Pamela Lancaster.

The property belonged to Warren man James Brooks, 40, who admitted seeing Bell, Southern Boulevard SW, on the last day her mother saw her, July 23, according to court testimony given by a sheriff’s office deputy.

A grand jury is considering charges against Brooks in connection to Bell’s death. He already faces 10 counts that stemmed from the raid and the discovery of the Bell’s remains – abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence, four counts of possessing weapons as a felon, three counts of trafficking cocaine and trafficking heroin.
