Wed. 9:41 p.m.: Remains in vacant Warren building identified

COMING THURSDAY: The Trumbull County Coroner’s Office said the skeletal remains found in the wall of a former East Market Street, Warren, business in March belong to Thomas Pickens.

The man, whose birthday is Aug. 1, 1954, was killed in 2009 in an act of violence, according to the coroner’s office. An investigation into how Pickens was killed is ongoing.

Keith and Kyle Bickel discovered the remains while checking for asbestos at two vacant properties purchased by Ken Haidaris, owner of the neighboring Sunrise Inn restaurant March 3.

Haidaris had hired the Bickels, father and son contractors, through Don Walters of Walters Paving in Warren, to inspect the property to prepare for demolition.

Kyle said he noticed something in a pile of insulation. He kicked some debris out of the way and was shocked to discover what looked like a hand bone.

Kyle called his father called police and went upstairs, looking to see if there were any other remains. The found the remains inside a closet in a little cubbyhole between the wall and roof.
