Wed. 2:25 p.m.: Weathersfield injection well to remain closed
WEATHERFIELD – The state’s Oil and Gas Commission has upheld the Division of Oil and Gas Resources’ decision to stop operations at an injection well located in the township after it was linked to seismic activity in the area last year.
The commission, which issued its ruling today denying an appeal from American Water Management Service Inc., affirmed a decision by the division’s chief to stop operations at the companys deeper injection well along state Route 169. A second shallow well located at the site had also been shut down, but was later permitted to resume operations.
AWMS had been seeking permission to resume operations at the deep bring injection well and appealed the chief’s decision and a hearing on the matter was held in March.
The commission’s ruling states that the primary issue of the appeal was whether the division chief “acted lawfully and reasonably in suspending operations” at the well. The commission determined the chiefs order was lawful and refused to lift his order to close the class II well.
