Tue. 1:51 p.m.: Gerberry resigns Ohio House seat

State Rep. Ronald V. Gerberry of Austintown will leave the Ohio House on Aug. 21, according to a resignation the Democrat tendered last week.

Gerberry’s letter is dated Aug. 7 and written to Ohio House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger, whose office and the Ohio House Democratic Caucus released it this afternoon.

Gerberry’s letter does not state a reason for his stepping down, however, a statement from the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office states Gerberry “among other things filed false campaign finance reports” with Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted’s Office and as a result, Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien, Mahoning County Prosecutor Paul Gains and the Ohio Attorney General’s Office have been working “to resolve all issues.”

It’s expected Gerberry will plead to charges related to campaign finance wrongdoing in the next several weeks.
