Fri. 4:45 p.m.: Austintown racino looks to add 75 gaming machines

AUSTINTOWN – The Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course is looking to add 75 more video gaming machines, bringing the number to 941

The Austintown facility has submitted plans to township officials to finish an area that has remained empty and concealed behind a temporary wall.

Plans are to take down part of the temporary wall to install the new machines on the gaming floor.

The facility is looking to complete the project by Sept. 1 at a cost of approximately $975,000, which includes the amount to be used for construction and to purchase the new video lottery terminals.

Construction manager for the project will be Lehman Daman Construction Services of Columbus, with significant portions of the work to be performed by Mahoning Valley-based subcontractors and construction workers.

Hollywood Gaming opened with 850 machines, and the past several months has seen consistent playing with 866 VLTs, according to its monthly financial reports from the Ohio Lottery Commission.

Bob Tenenbaum, spokesman for parent company Penn National Gaming Inc., said adding the machines “simply makes good business sense.”

He said the facility has even more room to add additional VLTs, possibly as many as 1,500.
