UPDATE: Thu. 11 pm: Warren man shot, roommate flees on motorcycle

WARREN — A quarrel between roommates this evening left one man in surgery with a gunshot wound and the other in custody after a motorcycle chase that ended in Newton Falls.

Police took Jeffrey Stone, 37, into custody after his roommate, Larry Newland, 48, told police that Stone shot him during an fight in an upstairs bedroom.

Newland, of 1907 Clermont Ave. N.E., was shot in his lower right abdomen. He was found lying outside of 1887 Clermont Ave. N.E about 6:41 p.m.

Police said they found neighbors Michael Ferry and Roberson Ferry, of 1887 Clermont Ave., attempting to care for Newland.

They told officers that Stone took off on a black “crotch rocket-type” motorcycle.

Warren Police Lt. Martin Gargas said the chase was picked up in Braceville, then in Newton Falls, where the bike crashed.

Once the pursuit turned to a foot chase, the Newton Falls Police along with the Ohio State Highway Patrol captured Stone. A weapon was recovered, police said.

While he is listed as Newland’s roommate, Stone has a secondary address, listed as 911 Milton Blvd., Newton Falls.

Questioning continued tonight, with formal charges not yet issued.

Newland was taken into surgery at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. His condition was not yet released.

“Dispatch did a fantastic job getting the information to the other jurisdictions,” Gargas said. “There were two separate chases and a foot pursuit.”
