Mon, 10:58pm: Howland superintendent announces retirement

HOWLAND — Howland Schools superintendent John Sheets will be saying goodbye to a 35-year career in education at the end of the year.

During its regular meeting Monday, the Board of Education accepted Sheets retirement resignation, effective Dec. 31.

“It’s time for me to retire and move on with the next phase in life. I don’t know what the next path for me will be. I’m not saying that I won’t do something or not, but at this point I’m just going to take things as it comes and look forward to retirement,” he said.

Sheets has served as Howland’s superintendent since August 2007.
