Thu., 6:12 pm: Tressel loses bid for U of Akron presidency

Jim Tressel, a presidential finalist at Youngstown State University and the University of Akron, was not selected to lead UA by its board of trustees.

The board, in a live streamed video, announced they selected Scott Scarborough, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of Toledo, to replace President Luis Proenza when he steps down in July.

Tressel is among three finalists for the presidential job at YSU, where he once coached the football program to championships. Tressel also coached at The Ohio State University and led the football team there, too, to a national championship.

The other finalists for the YSU job are Mary Cullinan, president of Southern Oregon University, and Gary L. Miller, chancellor at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

The YSU Board of Trustees will meet 7:30 a.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Monday.
