Thu., 4:15 pm: Man spotted bleeding near hospital cut himself

WARREN — A man witnesses said was spotted bleeding near Trumbull Memorial Hospital on Wednesday hurt himself, city police reported.

Police issued Tyrone M. Dowell, 43, of Lodwick Drive, a summons for disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor, after he jumped from an ambulance at the hospital around 4:30 p.m. and ran towards Market Street, according to a Warren police report.

Police said that initially they were called to Coleman Behavioral Group on North Park Avenue after emergency workers reported that a man, later identified as Dowell, had cut his wrist and was being uncooperative with them as they were attempting to transport him to the hospital, the report states.

Police said they did not assist in his transport because at that point Dowell was being cooperative.

However, when the ambulance arrived at the hospital, Dowell, who was bleeding, jumped out of the vehicle and took off towards Market Street, reports state. Police searched the area, including side streets, but did not locate Dowell. Hospital staff called police back to the hospital after it was reported that Dowell had been spotted running around the hospital bleeding.

Police checked the hospital, but again were unable to locate Dowell. However, police received reports that he left the main lobby of the hospital and was heading towards Market Street. Police located him heading west on East Market Street. Police took him to the emergency room for evaluation.

Police said Dowell eventually cooperated with them after he was told “that if he did not cooperate he would be tasered,” the police report states.
