Tue., 11:40am: UPDATE Bond set for man in fatal Amish buggy crash

BURTON – A northeast Ohio man was in court to face an aggravated vehicular homicide charge following a crash with an Amish buggy that killed one person and injured three others.

Douglas Learn was arraigned Tuesday in Chardon municipal court where a judge set a $75,000 bond. A message seeking comment was left with the public defender who represented Learn at the hearing.

The State Highway Patrol says the 42-year-old Learn was driving a Ford Explorer on Sunday night when it slammed into the back an Amish buggy carrying five members of a family near Burton in Geauga County.

Twenty-eight-year-old Joseph Byler died later at a hospital, and three family members were hurt.

The patrol has said alcohol played a role in the crash.
