Wed., 8:19am: Trumbull sheriff to get new cruisers

WARREN — Trumbull County Commissioners this morning are likely to OK spending a portion of the casino revenue the county received on four new police cars in the Sheriff’s Office.

The $135,808 cost includes decals, striping, GPS systems and radios.

The purchase will make 12 new vehicles bought for the office; four were purchased last year and four more in 2012.

Sheriff Tom Altiere said the office’s vehicle fleet is about 30, several with high mileage beyond their useful life. He said the office has been trying to replace four cruisers a year.

Since 2012, casino funds given to the county have amounted to about $3.5 million. The money has also been used for new washers and dryers in the county jail and on a new roof for a building at the county Engineer’s Office.
