Thu., 5pm: Warrant issued for Warren substitute teacher
WARREN — Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of a man they said assaulted a student at one of the city school buildings earlier this week while he was substitute teaching.
Police and school officials did not release the man’s name.
Warren City Schools Superintendent Michael Notar said the man was a substitute gym teacher who was dismissed after the incident on Tuesday.
Police said they were called to investigate the reported assault of an 8-year-old male student at the Willard K-8 building. The boy suffered apparent minor injury, according to a Warren police report. A 7-year-old girl is also named on the police report. It is not known whether she was hurt.
Notar said it’s his understanding the two students were arguing or fighting and the substitute attempted to break it up. However, he allegedly ended up hitting or spanking the 8-year-old, Notar said.
