Sat., 8:43 pm: Pedestrian dies after being hit by vehicle
SOUTHINGTON — A 44-year-old Cleveland woman died Friday night when she was hit by a vehicle as she was walking across U.S. Route 422 just east of state Route 305 about 10:15 p.m.
The Warren Post of the Ohio State Patrol is investigating the incident. Troopers said Saturday that Helen M. Washtock died at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, Danielle Lombardo, 32, of Niles was not hurt. Troopers said Lombardo was driving east on Route 422 when she came upon and struck the pedestrian, who was in the roadway.
Troopers said they do not suspect any alcohol use or any other impairment on Lombardo’s part. Toxicology tests on the pedestrian are pending.
No charges have been filed against Lombardo and the investigation is ongoing.
The spot is a near the spot where Christine Pettry, 42, of Garrettsville was fatally struck by two vehicles last August while crossing U.S. Route 422 in Southington Township. She was walking in the westbound lanes of U.S. 422 near Leiby Osborne Road when she was struck by a car and again by a truck.
