Fri., 12:26pm: UPDATE2 Humility of Mary to merge with E. Liverpool hospital

YOUNGSTOWN — Humility of Mary Health Partners and River Valley Health Partners, which operates East Liverpool City Hospital, entered into a letter of intent to merger, officials from both companies announced.

“We have been looking diligently for a long term organizational partner that will provide high quality healthcare to our community, needed financial stability, and healthcare leadership in times of great challenge,” River Valley President and CEO Kenneth Cochran said. “The reality is that RVHP will be able to serve more patients in more ways with HMHP by its side.”

East Liverpool City Hospital opened in 1905.

“This partnership supports our strategic effort to extend our reach in developing a network of healthcare services,” said HMHP President and CEO Bob Shroder.

HMHP, the Mahoning Valleys largest employer, is part of Catholic Health Partners, the largest healthcare system in Ohio.

Pending regulatory approval and finalization of terms, the official merger will likely occur this summer.

River Valley is an Ohio non-profit corporation comprised of East Liverpool City Hospital, River Valley Physicians, Ohio Valley Home Health Services, Inc., American Community Services, Inc., and Monroe Health Corporation.

HMHP includes the Mahoning Valley’s largest employed physician group, HMHP Physician Associates, St. Elizabeth Health Center, St. Joseph Health Center, St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, HM Home Health Services, The Assumption Village, Humility House, and Hospice of the Valley.
