Fri, 11:25 am: Inmate indicted in 2012 murder

WARREN — A 25-year-old local man currently serving time on robbery charges was indicted Friday morning for a Warren murder that has remained unsolved since July of 2012.

Lamont Salter, currently in Grafton Correctional Institution, faces charges of aggravated murder, kidnapping, improperly discharging firearms into a habitation and aggravated burglary, all with firearms specifications. He also was charged with having weapons while under disability, according to this morning’s Trumbull County grand jury report.

Salter is accused of killing Deshawn Scott, 36, who was struck with gunfire when his residence on Charles Avenue S.E. was hit with a barrage of bullets that reports indicate could have been fired by any of four masked men.

The masked men first confronted a woman in another nearby home and tried to drag her out of the house. She ran to safety and called police before the other home was shot up.

Assistant county prosecutor Chris Becker said new forensic evidence was developed in the case leading to the indictment.

Salter was sentenced to five years in prison in December 2012 on two counts of robbery with firearm specifications.
