Tue. 3:07pm: Civilian workers at airlift station on furlough

VIENNA – The voicemails set for civilian employees at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station announced their indefinite departure while a banner across the station’s web page informed it too would not be updated in light of the federal government shutdown.

The 400 civilian workers at the station were in the midst of wrapping up the 11 sequester-driven furloughs they were forced to take off, mostly on Mondays through Aug. 26.

As with the furlough days, the base will continue to operate safety and security measures. Non-essential operations such as the web page will fall by the wayside.

The page is normally updated every day or so with news of the base, and just Monday a story was posted on the recent visit of a group of disabled veterans to the station.
