Mon., 3:06pm: Champion schools makes Forbes list

CHAMPION — The Champion Local School District made the pages of Forbes Magazine.

A personal finance article “Midwest Dominates 2013 Best Schools For Your Housing Buck” in the latest Forbes mentions Champion schools as one of the winners in its latest survey of the “Best Schools For Your Housing Buck.”

The survey found that the best high-performing public school districts with affordable housing are in Ohio, Minnesota and Wisconsin, according to the magazine.

Board of Education President David Mahan said the article states that Champion “combines high-ranking schools with an almost unbelievable Zillow Home Value Index of $40,300.”

“As a resident in Champion, I was very happy to see this,” Mahan said. “For our small community to be mentioned in a national magazine is quite an honor. We couldn’t be happier.”

The article indicates the “Bang for the Buck” index involves dividing quality score into home price to come up with the intersection of price and quality.

Mahan said the district has received many “Excellent” ratings on state report cards over the years.

School officials noted at their recent meeting that Champion schools had the highest district report card in the Trumbull County with all A’s an B’s, and ranked well with “sister” school districts in the state on overall progress.
