Tue 2 pm: Nurses strike, hospital remains open
YOUNGSTOWN – As hundreds of striking nurses walk the picket line outside Northside Medical Center today, hospital officials said the facility is remaining open and operational.
All public entrances are open, hospital officials said, and increased security personnel and patrols have been added throughout the facility to assist patients and visitors.
“Northside Medical Center is continuing to provide high-quality care for its patients today, during a strike by the Ohio Nurses Association,” hospital spokeswoman Trish Hrina said in a prepared statement.
All inpatient, outpatient and emergency services are available, and all surgeries and diagnostic procedures are taking place as scheduled.
The hospital prepared by staffing the hospital with temporary replacement nurses.
Striking nurses say they will remain on the picket line for a 12-hour strike until 7 p.m. this evening in an attempt to bring attention to the fact that they have been working without a labor contract since July 2012.
