Thu., 7:09am: Democrat leader Betras accused of racism
YOUNGSTOWN — Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern defended Mahoning County Democratic Party Chairman David Betras, who stands accused of racism
“Chairman David Betras is among the most talented and dedicated Party leaders in the country,” Redfern said. “His actions this week reflect his deep commitment to the values we all share as Democrats. I support Chairman Betras without hesitation.”
Local African-American leaders have taken issue with Betras for confronting several black party leaders who support Demaine Kitchen, a black man, for Youngstown mayor. The party endorsed John McNally, who is white. Betras removed them from the committee for not supporting the party-endorsed candidate.
