Thu. 12:14pm: Senator tours Warren

WARREN – U.S. Sen. Rob Portman toured a block of Washington Street N.E. this morning with a variety of community leaders and volunteers to learn how this neighborhood in transition is being helped through a combination of demolition and stabilization programs.

The Ohio Republican discussed how his proposed Neighborhood Safety Act can further help in Warren’s turnaround by allowing the city to more freely utilize money that will be available through the Hardest Hit Fund.

Portman, walking with Mayor Doug Franklin, saw several homes that are slated to be torn down using the Moving Ohio Forward money.

Franklin, however, emphasized that nearby houses on the same block will remain standing unless the city gets a portion of $60 million being made available through the Hardest Hit Fund program sponsored through the federal government.
