Wed. 4:28pm: Gasoline prices begin summer slide
Gasoline prices are on a summer slide, giving motorists a break as they set out for the beach and other holiday vacation spots.
Gas prices in Northeast Ohio plummeted 23 cents this week to $3.511, just weeks after prices in the Midwest had soared to record or near-record highs, according to AAA motorist club. AAA reported Tuesday the average price per regular unleaded gallon in Niles was $3.591.
Nationally, the average price per gallon of regular unleaded fell for the 21st consecutive day, dipping below $3.50 for the first time since February.
Experts have attributed the nationwide drop to stable oil prices and refineries pumping out more gasoline after completing springtime maintenance.
