Fri. 4:19pm UPDATE2: Four in custody in fatal Niles burglary attempt

NILES – Police here have arrested four suspects in a burglary attempt July 12 that left one man dead.

Charged each with felony burglary are Scott C. Crislip, 18, of Ceder Street and Nichole R. Allen, 35, of Morris Street, Mineral Ridge.

Crislip and Allen both turned themselves in to police and are each being held on a $10,000 bond, according to police.

Also in custody as of today is Michael S. Burns, 33, of Mineral Ridge. and Mindy C. Sierra, 32, of Mineral Ridge, police said.

A fifth person, Terry D. Allen, 36, of Mineral Ridge, was fatally shot early July 12. Police also said Burns was struck by a bullet.

Police were alerted to the situation after a resident of 1539 Niles Cortland Road called them about 12:30 a.m. to report a burglary in progress. Someone was trying to get through two doors, he said.

The resident told police he fired a single shot toward the door someone was trying to get through, but didn’t know if he’d hit anyone.

Police said they found the body of a man, later identified as Allen, who appeared to have died from a gunshot wound.

He was still outside the residence, according to reports.

Niles police Chief Rob Hinton said this week that investigators planned to present the results of their investigation to the prosecutor’s office to review whether the shooting was justified.
