Fri. 2:39pm: Police seek pair in change theft

WEATHERSFIELD – Police are looking for a pair of Mineral Ridge residents who they claim stole a donation jar for a local store.

According to police, on June 15 a man and woman entered Ser Market, 3843 state Route 46, and took a jar that was set up at the checkout counter and contained about $50 in donations to fight leukemia.

Charged with petty theft – a misdemeanor – are Kimberly E. Chupa, 42, of County Line Road; and Duane W. Moore, 45, of Main Street.

A store manager told police that the pair often shops at the store but she couldn’t remember their names. The manager also gave police a copy of surveillance video that shows the woman grab change from the jar and leave the store. Shortly after, the man takes the jar and leaves as well.

Another employee found the jar outside the store.

As of Friday afternoon, neither Chupa nor Moore had been found.
