Tue., 2:04pm: Akron man stabbed in Warren while trying to give another man change

WARREN — An Akron man told police he was stabbed while trying to change out a $20 bill for another man early Tuesday morning at Jefferson Street and Nevada Avenue S.W.

Devonte L. Wells, 20, 332 Noble Ave., said he was walking around 3:30 a.m. when a man in his 20s, wearing all black clothing, approached him and asked him for change for a $20, according to a Warren police report. The report states that Wells, not thinking anything of it, reached into his left front pants pocket for the $154 he had to give the man change.

He said that all of a sudden the man grabbed his arm, which was in his pocket, and a struggle began, the report states. Wells told police the man fled without his money and he felt blood rolling down his arm, so he knew he had been cut.

Wells told police a friend gave him a ride to Trumbull Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for a 7-inch laceration to his left shoulder, the report states.
