Sun., 6:09pm: One dead, one wounded in Youngstown shooting
YOUNGSTOWN — A Youngstown man was killed in a shooting just after midnight Sunday morning on the citys east side.
Robert Vanderpool, 37, was found by police slumped over on the front porch of a home at 3337 Loveland Road. His mother, Rosemary Vanderpool, 76, was also found shot through the leg inside the home.
According to reports, Rosemary Vanderpool heard her son repeatedly yell at the front door, “I’m dying mom.” Rosemary Vanderpool opened the door and quickly slammed it. A bullet went through the door as she shut it and struck her in the leg.
She was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for treatment after giving police a statement.
Robert Vanderpool was fatally shot through the shoulder. Police found shell casings in the home’s front yard and a portion of a magazine on the porch.
In addition, two marijuana plants were found inside the home.
No one has been arrested in connection with the shooting. Youngstown police are investigating.
