Sat 10:30pm: Man’s body believed to be buried in house fire rubble

MECCA Firefighters believe he body of a man is buried in the rubble of house burned to the ground this afternoon.

A home and a barn were destroyed after firefighters and law enforcement were dispatched about 3:15 p.m. on a call of fire and a suicidal male.

Deputies at first kept firefighters from entering the property at 4948 North Park Avenue to battle the barn blaze while they investigated reports of shots being fired. It turned out to be ammo that was kept in the barn.

After the home erupted in flames about an hour later, various area fire departments ferried water from Mosquito Creek Reservoir to fight the fires.

Emergency crews remain on the scene and details remain sketchy. The identity of the man had yet to be released.

More details will appear in the Sunday Tribune Chronicle.
