Tue., 12:41pm: Data fuels saturation patrols in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN — Police Chief Rod Foley says crime data was the basis for a saturation patrol Friday evening and a driving under the influence checkpoint Saturday on the South Side.

Foley said this morning that he and his commanders decided to base both efforts over the weekend on Market Street because statistics show that is where the most calls and offenses occur.

For the weekend, there were 11 arrests and two guns were seized.

Foley said because warmer weather is approaching, he wants the department to be more proactive in stopping violence before it starts.

Among other agencies that helped the city over the weekend were the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
