Tue 12:19 p.m.: Bond set for “person of interest” in Sunset shooting
WARREN – Bond for a person of interest in the New Year’s morning homicide at the Sunset Lounge was set at $150,000 during a hearing on Monday.
Orlonzo Murry, 27, of 1016 Bennet Ave. N.W., is charged with possession of a firearm in a liquor establishment. He is schedule to appear at a preliminary hearing at 10:15 a.m. Monday.
Murry has been lodged at the Trumbull County Jail since Warren police traveled to Columbus last week to take him into custody and bring him back to Warren.
Staff at the the jail confirmed today he is still there.
Murry was wanted for questioning in the murder of 25-year-old Cory Blackwell, who died after being shot at the club Jan. 1. Police say an argument inside escalated into the shooting.
He was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Columbus early March 2 and held at the Franklin County Jail until Warren police picked him up.
Warren police confirmed they had been looking for Murry since shortly after the shooting and realized he had left the area. Police said they do not know why Murry was in Columbus and are not aware of any ties he has to that area.
No other arrests have been made in the case.
Blackwell was fatally shot after a fight broke out on the dance floor of the controversial club during a New Years party, according to police reports. The shooting also left a Warren woman wounded in the foot. Police found Blackwell outside the bar.
