Tue. 4:22pm: Cortland cops find gun during OVI stop
CORTLAND – A man who police say registered more than three times the legal limit for drunken driving also had a fully loaded 9-mm semiautomatic pistol in his van.
Thomas Jay Parker, 46, of Park Avenue in North Bloomfield, is expected to be arraigned in Central District Court Wednesday on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, OVI with a blood alcohol content of more than 0.17 percent, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
Officers were on West Main Street just after 4 p.m. Saturday on a traffic stop that resulted in a drug arrest when they got a call that a van was driving erratically on state Route 46 from Mecca and had almost struck several cars.
A caller to 911 had said she saw Parker’s van leave a Mecca bar, reports state.
