Sat. 6pm: Dog finds human skull in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN – An city resident got a surprise Saturday when his dog brought home a human skull.

About 1 p.m., Youngstown police were called to 2236 Vaughn Avenue after the homeowner notified them of the remains, which were found in the woods off to the side of the backyard, according to Det. Sgt. Chuck Swanson.

In addition to detectives, the police crime lab was on hand to process the skull as well as the coroner, who took custody of the remains.

Police said they will attempt to identify the find by analyzing missing persons reports.

“The homeowner’s dog always brings home bones,” such as deer bones, Swanson said, adding, “this is the first time he brought a skull home, though.”
