Tues 2:45 pm: Sunset Lounge shooting victim ID’ed
WARREN – The victim of the fatal shooting at the Sunset Lounge early today has been identified as 25-year-old Cory Blackwell.
Police said the Warren man was shot and killed after gunfire erupted inside the bar at 480 E. Market St., early this morning. He was found outside the bar and taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital where he later died, officers said.
Warren detectives said they have been questioning “numerous” people and following several leads but have no suspects. No arrests have been made.
The New Year’s Day shooting death marks the first for Warren in 2013.
Police believe the 2 a.m. shooting resulted from a fight on the crowded dance floor during a New Year’s party.
The shooting is among a long list of grievances that city officials have levied against the controversial club. The Sunset Lounge has a history of fights and other disturbances. Warren City Council had asked the state not to renew a liquor license for the business.
