FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY

The Friends of the Howland Library hold an ongoing book sale in the library meeting room. The group meets 7 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month through May. All are welcome to join.

l Mommy and Me Yoga, 11 a.m. Wednesday and May 10 and 20 — Join Miss Brindi for a simple yoga program especially for toddlers and their mamas (parent or caregiver). No experience needed. Adult and child will each need to bring a towel or yoga mat to sit on. For children ages 2 to 5. Registration is required; space is limited.

l Live Music at the Library: National Library Week Open House, 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday — Stop in and help the library celebrate National Library Week. Guitarist Tyler Guerrieri, a student at the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University, will perform classical guitar, and the Friends of the Howland Library will serve refreshments.

l The Presidents: Book Discussion Group, 7 p.m. April 19 — This group is dedicated to reading and discussing notable books about U.S. presidents. Read the book and then join in the discussion. The book is available to borrow from the library, or a limited number of paperback copies are available for purchase. The featured book for the April discussion is “Two Americans: Truman, Eisenhower, and a Dangerous World” by William Lee Miller.

l Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax Family Movie Night, 5:30 p.m. April 25 — Join the library for a night of animated adventure with the story of the Lorax. For kids in kindergarten to grade 6. Registration is required by April 22; space is limited.

l Toddler Tales, 10 and 11 a.m. April 20 and 27 and May 4, 11 and 18 — Storytime for toddlers 19 to 35 months old with a parent or caregiver. Registration is required and begins one week before the start of each five-week session.

l Preschool Storytime, 11 a.m. April 21 and 28 and May 5, 12 and 19– Preschool Storytime features stories and a craft related to a weekly theme and reinforces the development of early literacy skills. Early literacy is what children know about reading and writing before they can actually read and write, and mastering these skills now helps children grow up to be good readers. For children ages 3 to 5. Registration is not required.

l Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax Family Movie Night, 5:30 p.m. April 25 — Join the library for a night of animated adventure with the story “The Lorax.” For kids in kindergarten to grade 6. Registration is required by April 22; space is limited.

l Spring Gardening Series, 6:30 p.m. May 3 — Your green thumb will flourish this spring as you learn how to help your garden grow at these sessions. Presented by the Trumbull County Master Gardeners and by the Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District. This month’s topic: All Season Flower Gardening.

l Crafting for Mom, 2 to 4 p.m. May 12 — Need a last minute gift? Celebrate mom with a variety of crafts just for her. For kids in kindergarten to grade 6. Registration is not required; while supplies last.

l Read to SomeBunny, 6 to 7:30 p.m. May 15 — Cute, cuddly and nonintimidating bunnies are perfect listeners. Children in kindergarten to sixth grade can sign up to read aloud to registered and certified Bunnies in Baskets (therapy rabbits) for 15-minute sessions. Rabbits are provided by Frisky Ferrets, Fuzzies and Feather Friends Rescue and Sanctuary. Registration is required.

l Ancestry: Library Edition Class, 6:30 p.m. May 23 — Participants will learn how to use the library’s subscription database to find census, marriage, death, birth, military and immigration records, and how to refine their searches. Those taking the class should be familiar with navigating a computer using a mouse. To register for a class at any location, call 330-399-8807, Ext. 202.
