WHAT: Board of Education organizational meeting Wednesday

PRESENT: Tarin Brown, Tom Gifford, Michele Garman, Rex Rager and Jim Pegg

The board:

• Gave first reading to placing a renewal 9.25-mill tax levy on the May primary ballot for current needs of the district. Brown said the county auditor will certify the exact millage and amount the levy will generate. Final reading by the board is set for Jan. 16;

• Named Brown as chairman and Gifford as vice chairman;

• Approved Pegg as legislative liaison and Rager as student liaison to the Ohio School Board Association;

• Employed Bonita Bock as superintendent secretary / EMIS coordinator at $20.19 per hour;

• Approved McGowan and Markling and Squire, Patton, Boggs LLC to handle legal matters for the district as needed;

• Heard from Brown the board will wait until the Mathews Education Association, which represents district teachers, acts on a new contract agreement on Jan. 10 before the board takes action. He said if the teachers’ union ratifies the new agreement, the board will act on it Jan.16;

• Set meetings for 7 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month at the high school with the June meeting set for June 16.
