Winterfest Dance marks 18th year

GIRARD — Special needs students from area schools will have the chance to celebrate the holidays in style at the 18th annual Winterfest Dance set 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Mahoning Country Club, 710 Liberty St. SE.

Jeanne Constantino, event coordinator and a special education teacher at East High School in Youngstown, said the event will include a dinner, music and crowning of a Prince and Princess of the celebration.

Constantino said the chaperoned dance is open to all high-school age students with various developmental disabilities or orthopedic disabilities.

Parents are welcome between 4:30 and 5 p.m. and 8:15 to 8:30 p.m. so students have the opportunity to interact with students from other school districts.

Constantino said a professional photographer will take pictures of students with Santa, Mrs. Claus and elves. She said the highlight of the event is the crowning of the snow prince and princess with a drawing held to randomly select students from different districts to be part of the court.

The dance draws participants from Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties.
