Veterans memorial to be dedicated

CEREMONY: The newly completed Cortland Veterans Memorial will hold a dedication 1 p.m. Saturday at Point Park on North High Street. All veterans, active military, memorial contributors and the public are invited. Walnut Street near the memorial will be closed for parking. Those attending can bring a lawn chair. The local American Legion Honor Guard and Boy Scouts will take part in the ceremony, which will mark the official presentation of the memorial to the city.
FOOD DRIVE: The Liberty Fraternal Order of Police No. 65 and the Liberty Police Department will hold a food drive for Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave. They will be collecting non-perishables and monetary donations.
SCHOOL PLAY: The Hubbard High School Drama Club will present “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” 7 p.m. today and 2 p.m. Sunday at the high school auditorium.
CLOTHING GIVEAWAY: First Christian Church, corner of Broad and Center streets in Newton Falls, will host a community unity winter clothing giveaway 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. To donate items for the event, call 330-872-7055 or call 330-872-1328.
HOLIDAY AUCTION: The Newton Falls Preservation Society, which is trying to get the community center reopened, will hold a holiday auction and dinner 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, 336 Ridge Road, Newton Falls. Auction items can be viewed noon to 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the auction are available separate from the dinner. The foundation is committed to the preservation of the local historic architecture and cultural heritage through education, advocacy and stewardship. Goals are to reopen the community center, beautification of the river banks, enhancement of parks and preservation of buildings. For information, call 330-469-1547.
FALL PIE SALE: Ladies Aid of the McKinley Community Church, 1524 Elm Road NE, Warren, will have their annual fall pie sale and lunch 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. There will be a large variety of baked or frozen pies, baked items, jams, hot peppers, soups. Limited bazaar items and books also will be available.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: The Mahoning Valley Historical Society is seeking volunteers to help staff the Arms Family Museum during the Memories of Christmas Past exhibit. Volunteers are needed to help welcome visitors and assist with activities and events. The exhibit is open Saturday to Jan. 6. Those interested in volunteering can call 330-743-2589. Volunteers are asked to commit to four hours throughout the duration of the exhibit.
