GRAND OPENING: Champion Christian Church, 151 Center St., will celebrate the completion of its building expansion with a ribbon cutting and grand opening 3:30 p.m. today. Construction of the 7,500-square-foot expansion began in summer 2017.

COLLECTION SITE: Southington Christian Church, 3285 state Route 534, will be a collection site 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday to Nov. 18 for Samaritan’s Purse to collect items to be packed into shoeboxes and sent to children overseas.

CHURCH CELEBRATES 102 YEARS: Second Baptist Church “A House of Hope,” 1510 Main Ave. SW in Warren, will celebrate its 102nd church anniversary 10:15 a.m. Sunday. The homecoming worship service will feature guest speaker the Rev. Gary Frost of Youngstown. The theme is “Rediscovering our church covenant, renewing our Christian commitment.” The day will feature a recognition of those persons who have been members for 50 years or more, as well as a special tribute to veterans and active service-members serving in the U.S. Armed Forces in honor of Veterans Day. Former members or residents who have family or loved ones who had been a part of Second Baptist are welcome to join in this special service.

Second Baptist Church, known as “A House of Hope,” is the oldest black Baptist church in Trumbull County.

HONORING VETERANS: First Baptist Church, 26 E. Church St., Niles, will honor all who have served or continue to serve in the Armed Forces 10:45 a.m. Sunday. Also to be recognized are first responders.

Greg Tackett, a Marine Corps veteran, is guest speaker. Veterans will receive a gift.

BOOKS OF BIBLE: Progressive Baptist Church of Warren will host its annual 66 Books of the Bible Program 11 a.m. Sunday.

CHURCH ANNIVERSARY: Restoration Christian Fellowship Church, 760 Main Ave. SW, Warren, will celebrate its 11th anniversary 11 a.m. Sunday with special guest Elder Dwight Dumas.

ADVENT KICKOFF: First Presbyterian Church, Mahoning Avenue, Warren, will hold an Advent kickoff 11 a.m. Sunday with crafts for all ages. Pillow cases and throws are being collected for Someplace Safe.

Nov. 18 is Founders Day to celebrate the founding of the church.

HONORING VETS: Bristolville United Methodist Church, state Routes 45 and 88, will observe Veterans Day during 11 a.m. worship Sunday with all area veterans and their families. Recognition and prayer will be lifted for all military personnel and their families present. A special memento also will be presented to each veteran.

Guest speaker for the service will be John Hickey, who will parallel his extensive military experience with many of the life experiences he has encountered since he left the military. He began his firefighting career as a Fire Protection Specialist in the United State Air Force. He served six years on active duty and six years in the reserves.

After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Hickey serves as chief of Champion Fire Department He is in his 12th year as fire chief and his 15th year as a firefighter in Champion.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH: Blessed Sacrament Parish, Reeves Road, Warren, will hold the seventh annual Community Outreach Day Sunday, with Mass at 11:30 a.m., followed by service work 1 to 4 p.m.

Church members will complete various projects in the community, including yard work, garage cleaning and grocery shopping.

CONFERENCE SET: The Office of Pro-Life, Marriage and Family Ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown is sponsoring a mini-conference entitled “Love, Sexuality, Family & Culture: 50 Years Since Humanae Vitae (On Human Life)” 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at St. Christine Parish Center, 3165 S. Schenley Ave., Youngstown. Speaker is Donald Wallenfang, theology professor at Walsh University, who will speak on “Love Mystical and Mundane: Humanae Vitae in the 21st Century.” Breakout sessions will include My Natural Family Planning Journey and Responsible Parenthood; Who Am I? Sexual Identity and the Judeo-Christian Anthropology; Dealing with Infertility and other GYN Problems in a Natural Way; and Male & Female He Created Them.

HUMILITY EVENT: Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center, 2067 Evergreen Road, will present “Humility and the Harvest” 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The fall session will be led by Frank Romeo and Barbara O’Donnell.

FILM SHOWING: The Carpathos Rusyn Society of Youngstown-Warren will honor veterans 2 p.m. Sunday at SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, 180 Belvedere NE, Warren, with a showing of a documentary on the life of Sgt. Michael Strank of the Marine Corps. He was killed in action during the battle of Iwo Jima in World War II.

Strank was one of the six flag-raisers in the iconic war photo and organized the raising of the second U.S. flag atop Mount Suribachi on Feb. 23, 1945.

All veterans are welcome.

CHURCH ANNIVERSARY: Valley Missionary Baptist Church, 405 Depot St., Niles, will hold the 94th church anniversary 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Guest speaker will be James Bowie, pastor of Greater Youngstown Baptist Church. The theme is “The Light of the World.”

VETERANS CONCERT: First Christian Church, 140 E. Broadway St., Girard, will host the Girard Swingtime Band for a Veterans Day concert 6 p.m. Sunday. There will be a basket raffle and 50-50 drawing. Veterans in attendance will be recognized.

PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY: Elim Christian Church will mark the 18th pastoral anniversary honoring Apostle Loretta Pernice and David Pernice Wednesday, Friday and Nov. 18.

Wednesday is a skate party 6 to 8 p.m. at Champion Roller Rink. On Friday, Bishop T. Anthony Bronner of Elim Christian Fellowship in Buffalo will speak at 7 p.m.

On Nov. 18, the Ministerial Tag Team will have a service at 11 a.m.

COMMISSIONED: More than 20 men and women from around the Youngstown Diocese will be commissioned as lay leaders of prayer Wednesday at the evening prayer at Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, St. James Church, in North Jackson. Msgr. Robert Siffrin, Vicar General of the Diocese of Youngstown, will be the presider.

Leaders of prayer are lay persons commissioned to lead the faithful in acts of worship that in the past were most often led by ordained clergy but may be also led by lay people.

SURVIVING THE HOLIDAYS: First Presbyterian Church, Mahoning Avenue, Warren, will hold a “Surviving the Holidays” 6 p.m. Thursday for anyone who has lost a loved one. Attendees will learn practical strategies for coping with family and holiday gatherings and leave with a useful guide. Mary Ann Bromley, Ohio Living chaplain, will conduct the class.

GIFT OF GRATITUDE: The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown and St. Angela Merici Parish Young will sponsor the Gift of Gratitude, a morning of reflection for young adults ages 18 to 39, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at Ursuline Motherhouse, 4250 Shields Road, Canfield.

There will be prayer, reflection and fellowship. The speaker will be Sister Patricia McNicholas, co-director of Beatitude House.

GOSPEL BENEFIT: A gospel benefit sing for Carla Click, who is battling breast cancer, will be 6 p.m. Nov. 17 at General Assembly Church of God, 2021 E. River Road, Newton Falls. The benefit will feature the Singing Weavers and other local singing groups.

50-YEAR MEMBERS: First Presbyterian Church, 256 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren, will recognize 50-year members 10 a.m. Nov. 18.

COLLECTION EFFORT: Pastor Gerry Gammon of the First United Church of Christ, 280 E. Market St., Warren, challenged his congregation to collect 500 pounds of food for the Warren Family Mission and if they did, there would be a matching donation. They met their match and more. This food will be blessed on Harvest Sunday Nov. 18 at their 10:45 a.m. worship.

CONFIRMATION: A Sacrament of Confirmation for adults will be 2 p.m. Nov. 18 at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown.

Confirmation candidates must be prepared and eligible to receive the sacrament by verifying baptism and marital status. Confirmation candidates must register with their parish.

BENEFIT CONCERT: Central Christian Church, 2051 E, Market St., Warren, will hold a benefit concert 5 p.m. Nov. 18 with Pastor Ty Sabella “The Singing Preacher,” Mark Pringle 1950s Elvis Tribute Band and John Reese. All donations will go to the ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

THANKSGIVING SERVICE: Covenant Presbyterian Church, Warren, will hold a Thanksgiving service 7 p.m. Nov. 18.
