Hospital joins effort to help people quit

GREAT AMERICAN SMOKEOUT: Trumbull Regional Medical Center will host the Great American Smokeout Thursday.

The hospital is partnering with the American Cancer Society, Hope Center for Cancer Care and Eastern Ohio Pulmonary Consultants as part of a nationwide effort to help people quit smoking.

The public is invited to the lobby of Trumbull Regional from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to visit table displays with hands-on activities and experiments for tobacco education. Staff from all four organizations will be available to answer any questions. Tobacco cessation information and additional resources will also be available.

The annual event on the third Thursday of every November challenges people to stop smoking for at least 24 hours with the goal that the decision not to smoke will last longer, ideally forever. For information, call 330-841-9411.

CELEBRATING IN HARTFORD: “Holidays in Hartford” will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at state routes 7 and 305. There will be various holiday activities, including Boy Scouts serving lunch. Various crafters and vendors will be at different buildings at the center.

PARTY BREAKFAST: The Trumbull County Republican Party will hold its monthly breakfast 9 a.m. Saturday at the Buckeye Club, 366 N. Park, Warren. There will be a full-course buffet breakfast. Cost is $12.

Guest speaker will be ORP Deputy State Director David Warren, who will recap the Nov. 6 general election.

MRS. CLAUS’ CLOSET: West Farmington United Methodist Church, 240 College St., will hold a pre-Christmas evening “Mrs. Claus’ Closet” 6 p.m. Thursday.

The event will include craft demonstrations, silent auction and snacks. Cost is $3.

GUEST AUTHORS: Authors G. Douglas Davis, international relations scholar, and Marinella Lentis, Native American cultural history scholar, will discuss recent and upcoming books and take questions 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Newton Falls Public Library. Presentations are 1 p.m. and questions are 2 p.m.

BLOCKWATCH TO MEET: Girard 2nd and 3rd Wards blockwatches will meet 6 p.m. Thursday at the Girard Free Library community room. Girard police Chief John Norman is guest speaker.
