Lions Club gets new location

LORDSTOWN — The Lordstown Lions Club has found a new location as the club has obtained a special-use permit from the village for a home to be turned into a meeting house off Lyntz Road.

Janet Krempasky, who this year became the first female Lordstown Lions Club president, said the two-story Cape Cod-style structure could be ready by 2019.

“We have to do some work on the house to get it ready for our purposes,” she said noting it will be used for meeting and special events.

For the past three years, the club has been meeting at a room at Lordstown Elementary School and holding Friday night bingo and special events at the nearby UAW Local 1714 Union Hall.

“We are very appreciative the school district accommodated us,” she said.

Krempasky said the club acquired the Lyntz Road home after the former resident died.

“It will be our official club house for meetings, bingo and club events and functions, “Krempasky said.

The club meets 6 p.m. the first and third Thursdays of each month.

The Lions Club, a service organization, also holds an Easter egg hunt and other community events.

A fund-raising craft show will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 17 and breakfast with Santa Claus Dec. 1, both at the UAW Hall, 2121 Salt Springs Road.

More women members have joined in recent years, Krempasky said.

The club also sponsors a teen and young Lions Club group known as the Leo Group which does community service and helps the Lions with fund-raisers.
