NORTHEAST OHIO QUARRIES PROGRAM: The Howland Historical Society will host a program “Quarries in Northeast Ohio and Trumbull County” with author Ralph Pfingsten at 7 p.m. Monday at the Howland Township administration building.

Pfingsten is author of “History of the Ravenna Arsenal” and will have copies of his book available. Light refreshments will be available. For information, call 330-856-3432.

CENTER TO MARK PATRIOT DAY: The Girard Multigeneratonal Center, 443 Trumbull Ave., will hold a Patriot Day observance 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at the center. The event will remember those who lost their lives in the 2001 terrorist attacks.

LIBRARY BEING REPAIRED: The Austintown Public Library, 600 S. Raccoon Road, will be closed for two weeks starting Monday for repairs to the parking lot to address water drainage issues.

GREETING CARDS: The McKinley Memorial Library will host “Create Your Own Greeting Cards” 2:30 to 4 p.m. Monday at the McKinley Birthplace Home.

BACKPACK PROGRAM: The Newton Falls community backpack program to get food to children will be held mid-October to mid-May. Local churches, schools and other community groups have helped to get bags of food, as well as new and used books, to children.

Volunteers will package on Wednesday at the middle school. The program is meant to supplement a child’s meals and snacks. Collection boxes are set up at the Associated School Employee Credit Union, United Methodist Church and Healthy Rewards. Monetary donations can be sent to ASECU.
