Gospel music makes a return to fair

CANFIELD — Gospel music will return to the Canfield Fair presented by Sweeney Chevrolet, Buick and GMC on four days this year including an appearance of one of the genre’s biggest groups, the Hoppers.

The Hoppers will take the stage 4 p.m. Sunday as part of a two-hour concert. There is no additional charge for the performance. Seating is limited, so attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.

The Hoppers were inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2012. They have performed around the world and across America. They have been labeled America’s Favorite Family. They have had numerous songs on the gospel charts, including “Shoutin’ Time in Heaven.”

The Golden Street Singers will host four sessions of gospel music during the fair week. Today from 6 to 8 p.m. the Farmdale duo of Charles and Brenda Jarvis will be joined by Michael Gardner, a soloist from Talmadage.

On Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., the featured group will be Renewal, with Youngstown favorite Donnie Abraham.

On Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m., Calvary’s Path from Cleveland will provide Bluegrass gospel.

On Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m., the Hoppers and the Golden Street Singers will perform.
