NEW MINISTER: McDonald Woodland Park Methodist Church welcomes new minister Shane Russo today. There will be a combined picnic with the Girard First United Methodist Church noon to 3 p.m. at Woodland Park in McDonald. Russo became a new Methodist minister in May.

OUTDOOR SERVICE: Dan Schall will be giving a gospel concert 9 a.m. Sunday during church services at the Ashtabula County Antique Engine Club’s 37th annual show at 4026 U.S. Route 322, Wayne Township.

Schall, a gospel singer, has been praising the Lord in song and word at the show since 1987.

UNITY SUNDAY: Bristolville United Methodist Church, state Routes 45 and 88, will hold Unity Sunday 10 a.m. Sunday. Those attending are asked to wear the shirt or tee of their favorite team, cause or organization. The theme of the service will center on the Bible’s guidance regarding teamwork and organization of the local church.

SUMMER FESTIVAL: The 2DE fourth annual Gospel Festival will be held Sunday in downtown Youngstown as part of the Youngstown State University Summer Festival of the Arts.

SECRET SUMMER: Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center in Villa Maria, Pa., will host the summer session in an ongoing Seasonal Land Series “Secrets of Summer” 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. SUMMER CELEBRATION: The Steel Valley Baptist Association will sponsor a summer celebration 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Perkins Park, Mahoning Avenue NW, Warren. There will be free food and games.

PRAYER SERVICE: Newton Falls Christian Church, 17 N. Center St., will hold a community prayer service 7 p.m. Sunday.

CHURCH HOSTS CONCERT: Liberty Presbyterian Church, 1451 Churchill Hubbard Road, will host the second annual parking lot band concert 7 p.m. Thursday with raindate July 26. The Girard Swing Band will perform.

RABBI MEYER LECTURE: The 23rd annual Rabbi Meyer Memorial Lecture and the fifth annual Nostra Aetate Lecture “70 Years of the State of Israel and the Dead Sea Scrolls” will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the Villa Maria Education Center, 2067 Evergreen Road, Villa Maria, Pa.

Guest speaker will be Lawrence H. Schiffman, professor of Hebrew and Judaic Studies at New York University and director of the Global Institute for Advanced Research in Jewish Studies. Schiffman will discuss the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls on the eve of the declaration of the State of Israel.

CHURCH WORKSHOPS: Vienna United Methodist Church, 4265 Warren Sharon Road, will host one-night workshops focusing on life situations and provide attendees with tools and Biblical help to maneuver through difficult times. The workshops will be held 7 p.m. Thursdays. Topics will be Thursday, “Living Single for any Reason”; July 26, “What Do I Say?”; and Aug. 9, “Living with an Addict.”

PARISH FEST: Blessed Sacrament Parish, Reeves Road, Warren, will hold a parish summer fest 10 a.m. July 15 on the church grounds.

FESTIVAL SET: Holy Apostles Parish in Youngstown will hold a parish festival 10:30 a.m. July 15 at St. Anne Church hall, 4310 Kirk Road, Austintown. There will be Mass at 10:30 a.m. There will be entertainment, games, activities, raffles and Del Sinchak Band 2 to 6 p.m.

HISTORIC HOMES: Temple El Emeth, 3970 Logan Way, Liberty, will hold Minyan and Meal 5:45 p.m. July 19. The program presenter is Marcia Levy, who will hold a powerpoint tour of “Historic Homes in Liberty.”

B’NAI B’RITH EVENT: The second annual B’nai B’rith picnic will be 3 p.m. July 22 at Buhl Park Shelter #2, 715 Hazen Road, Hermitage. Pa. The event will include musical entertainment. Those attending can bring a lawn chair. RSVP at 330-360-8836.

DRIVE-IN WORSHIP: The Andover United Methodist Church will hold a drive-in outdoor service 9:30 a.m. Sundays through Sept. 2. People can attend the service from their cars or bring lawn chairs. The service is at Wildwood Acres Campgrounds at the intersection of state Route 7 and Marvin Road.

Other special music services include Dan Shall on Aug. 12 and Golden Street Singers on Aug. 19.

SUMMER STUDY: Friendship Baptist Church, 1954 Brier St. SE, Warren, will present an 11-week focus group, “Issues in Focus.”

The group is geared toward addressing relevant issues for people 18 to 25 years old at 9:30 a.m. Sundays through Aug. 12.

URSULINE CENTER PROGRAMS: Ursuline Motherhouse, 4250 Shields Road, Canfield, will hold a Women’s Spirituality Series in journaling 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 2 and Sept. 6. Ursuline Sister Eileen Kernan will explore how the ancient tradition of journaling can help dialog with inner wisdom.

The Ursuline Center Spiritual Book Club will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the center. The first five chapters of “Things Hidden: Scripture as Spirituality” by Richard Rohr will be discussed and the concluding chapters will be considered Aug. 7.

BLESSING OF BAGS: Grace United Methodist Church in Warren held a blessing bags for children in residence at Someplace Safe that were prepared as part of the vacation Bible school summer camp. More than 80 children from age 3 to eighth grade donated new products such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo and soap / body wash, as well as monetary donations to fill the bags that were then delivered to Someplace Safe.
