Celebrate history at Quinby Park

JUNETEENTH TO BE MARKED: The Community Concerned Citizens will sponsor the 16th annual Juneteenth celebration 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Quinby Park, Austin Avenue, Warren. The event will include “The Community in Unity” with music, dancing, and city officers, style show, health agencies, talent show, praise team, picnic and games. Different organizations will be participating with people portraying historical people who paved the way. The celebration of Juneteenth began with the Emancipation proclamation that was issued in 1893 by President Abraham Lincoln stating that all persons held as slaves would be free. BOOK SALE: Hubbard Friends of the Library is holding a summer vacation paperback book sale 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Thousands of paperback books will be available in the main meeting room of the Hubbard Public Library, 436 W. Liberty St., Hubbard. Prices remain low at 25 cents for standard paperbacks and 50 cents for over-sized paperbacks. Books are well sorted and range from children’s to teen to adult books. Also included in the sale are cd’s, dvd’s, audio books, puzzles and games. All funds benefit the Hubbard Public Library. Call book sale chairman Bonnie Viele 330-534-1394 with questions.

FARM BUREAU DAY: The Farm Bureau Day sponsored by Trumbull County Farm Bureau will be held June 23 at Family Farm and Home, 3850 Elm Road, Warren. The free event for the public will only be at the Warren location. Trumbull County Farm Bureau will provide food. Door prize drawing every hour. Join Farm Bureau or renew your membership for a chance to win a grill. The member appreciation social will begin at 4 p.m. with ice cream, door prizes and music. Farm Bureau members are free; children under 5 are free; non-members are $5. WILD IN THE GARDEN: Children entering grades first to sixth can explore and investigate the natural world at the patio garden at the Warren-Trumbull County Main Library 10:30 a.m. today as part of the “Get Wild in the Garden” program. Participants can use a variety of lenses, including science, story, art, play, and food. Children should dress to get dirty. Meets rain or shine. ELVIS TRIBUTE: An Elvis Presley tribute will be 6 p.m. today at the Cortland Library Branch as local entertainer Ernie Valley perform as Elvis. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Cortland Library.
