New pastor starts at Niles church

NILES — Having served most recently at a church in California, Pastor Dan Squezello was excited to start serving as pastor at a church in Niles, which is closer to Connecticut where he grew up.

Squezello started as the new minister at Central Baptist Church, 1301 North Road, on March 1.

The Stratford, Connecticut, native said he served most recently in Lake Tahoe before wanting to head back closer to home when the opening occurred at the Niles church,

“When there was an opening here, I applied. The church has a nice family atmosphere,” he said.

Squezello said when he went on a mission trip at age 18 to a Navajo Indian Reservation in New Mexico, his career plans changed.

He said after high school, he had originally planned to become an architect and live in Boston.

“God opened my heart when I saw the poverty of the people at the reservation. I decided then I wanted to serve Him and become a pastor and then went to Southern California Seminary in San Diego,” he said.

The Niles church will be the second church at which he has served. He said he looks forward to reaching out to the community and letting people know the church and its members care for them.

“The people here are very focused on serving God,” Squezello said.

He said he would like to see a strong children’s ministry in place.

Having grown up in northern New England, he said it was nice to come to Ohio where there will be seasons. He said in California, it was either summer all the time or four feet of snow in the winter.

Squezello also holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

He and his wife, Tabbetha, have two children, Cameron, 7, and Cadance, 4.
